Catholics United for Climate Action
This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. Both anniversaries present an occasion to invite Catholics to take climate action by uniting in a call for a just and sustainable world that exists within planetary limits. The Pope makes it clear that “living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is … not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience” (Laudato Si’ #217).
The current COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to come to terms with the inequality and inhumanity of our political-economic system which promotes unlimited growth and economic gain without any care for Creation..
We are asking all Catholics in Canada – individuals, parishes, and congregations – to sign the attached letter to urge the Canadian government to take swift and concrete steps to address the climate emergency.
Please, sign the letter by May 22, if you want your name and/or organization name to appear on the day of the submission to the PM’s office.
