Easter Hope: Moving Forward Together in Mission

Dear Oblates and Oblate Associates of OMI Lacombe Canada, in Canada and in Kenya,
Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Easter lies at the heart of our faith. It reminds us that life is stronger than death, hope is stronger than fear, and that God is still at work—even when the future feels uncertain. In this light, we can face our present reality with both honesty and trust.
In Canada, we see the reality of fewer members and aging communities. This calls us to make some difficult decisions about our ministries and presence. Yet, alongside these challenges, a quiet hope is growing among us. We are discovering new ways of living our missionary life together and opening new paths—among migrants, young adults, and those on the margins.
In Kenya, we remain united in mission and prayer, continuing our shared commitment to the Gospel.
Easter brings all of this together. It does not remove the cross—but it reminds us that the cross is not the end.
This year is especially significant to us. We celebrate the 200th anniversary of the approbation of our Constitutions and Rules. For two centuries, these Constitutions have guided our life and mission. They continue to call us to live as missionaries, close to the people, especially the most abandoned.
As Eugene de Mazenod gently reminded his companions:
“Among yourselves, practice charity; outside, zeal for souls.”
These simple words continue to guide us today, reminding us that our life together and our mission are inseparable.
As we prepare for the Convocation, we are moving from discernment to decision—not only reflecting, but taking concrete steps forward. Our strength has always been our unity in mission. Oblates and Oblate Associates share the same call:
“We are a missionary Congregation. Our principal service in the Church is to proclaim Christ and his Kingdom to the most abandoned.” – Constitutions and Rules of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (cf. C. 1)
This mission knows no boundaries. Whether in Canada or Kenya, in long-standing ministries or new initiatives, we are one family—sent to bring good news to the poor.
Our Oblate Associates are true partners in this mission. Your gifts, presence, and commitment are essential to the future we are building together.
Easter tells us something simple yet powerful: we are not at the end of the story. We are at a new beginning. Let us move forward with courage, with faith, and hope.
May the joy and peace of the Risen Christ be with you all this Easter.
Christ is risen. He is truly risen!
