The Missionary Oblates have a long history of ministry in Canada and continue to serve alongside communities across the country. Today, this work includes a renewed commitment to building relationships with Indigenous peoples and supporting pathways of healing, reconciliation and shared responsibility.
Lac Ste. Anne Pilgrimage
The Lac Ste. Anne Pilgrimage is one of Canada’s oldest and most significant Catholic gatherings. For generations, Indigenous families and Catholic pilgrims have travelled to Lac Ste. Anne to pray, gather, celebrate their faith and reconnect with one another and the land.
In 2000, the Oblates publicly committed to a renewed partnership with Indigenous communities in the ownership, leadership and operation of the pilgrimage. This commitment recognizes the importance of Indigenous leadership and shared responsibility in caring for this sacred place and its future.
The Oblates continue to support the pilgrimage and its vision as a place of faith, gathering, healing and relationship. Together with Indigenous partners, they seek to honour its history while helping ensure that Lac Ste. Anne remains a place of welcome and prayer for generations to come.
