Although the weather outside was cold, Associate Debbie Doornbos and I experienced a warm and wonderful welcome from Father Marek Pisarek, OMI and parishioners at Saint Patrick’s Parish in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada. Their November 29, 2019 – December 1, 2019 weekend visit was an opportunity to acquaint members of the parish with the vocation of Oblate Associates. Debbie serves as District Animator for Brother Anthony District and I am the Provincial Animator for OMI Lacombe Canada as well as being an Honorary Oblate.
Speaking at each of the Masses, Debbie and I witnessed to our personal call to Association. At a later meeting on Sunday, we spoke of Eugene, his charism and the call for the baptized to share it. We invited the small but enthusiastic group to explore the idea of Association. With the help of Father Marek, the plan is that those interested will learn more about it all in the New Year!
Thanks to all who welcomed us and a special note of thanks for the warm weather. While we experienced temperatures of around -8, the day after we left it was forecast to fall to – 23. A chilly reception indeed!
