COP30 Side Event
Responding to the Global South Catholic Bishops Conferences’ Call for Climate Justice

Dear friends,

I’m excited to share that ORCIE will be participating in COP30 this November in Belém, Brazil (Nov. 10–17, 2025)! Our latest web post, On the Road to COP30: ORCIE’s Journey to Belém, Brazil, highlights our plans for the conference and how this global gathering connects to our shared advocacy for climate justice.

Our delegation—led by Geneviève Gallant and myself—will join faith-based and civil society partners from around the world to stand in solidarity with the people of the Global South, those most affected by ecological breakdown yet least responsible for it. We will represent the voices of our Catholic religious congregation members and amplify their call for climate justice. By witnessing the negotiations firsthand, we hope to bring back grounded insights and lived experiences that will strengthen ORCIE’s advocacy in Canada. The connections and stories we gather in Belém will shape our briefings, media work, and legislative engagement well into 2026.

I’m also honoured to be speaking on the COP30 side event panel “Responding to the Global South Catholic Bishops Conferences’ Call for Climate Justice”. As a bi-national Honduran-Canadian, I’ll be sharing perspectives from both the Global South and our Canadian context to this important dialogue. Please find attached the copy of the event’s poster.

Thank you for your continued support and accompaniment as we prepare for this important moment.

In hope,

Sasquia
