Trois-Rivières – September 13, 2024 – A symbolic place renowned for its atmosphere of serenity and peace, the Notre-Dame-du-Cap Sanctuary is a haven of tranquillity and a welcoming space for visitors seeking reflection, meditation, or spiritual renewal.

Many individuals work there daily to ensure a fulfilling experience for visitors. In staying true to its mission, this organization is constantly striving for coherence and efficiency, seeking to develop in ways that respect the very foundation of this institution, which is a source of pride for our region.

In this spirit, Father Jacques Laliberté, Provincial Superior of the Oblates of Quebec, and the Notre-Dame-du-Cap Sanctuary are pleased to announce the appointment of a new rector, Father Luc Tardif.

The new rector brings skills, vision, and experience that will complement and strengthen the team already in place. A member of the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate since 1976, he has been a priest since 1982. He brings with him extensive community and ecclesial experience, having served on numerous university, diocesan, national, and civil councils.

Holding a law degree from the University of Sherbrooke, a theology degree from Saint Paul University in Ottawa, and a spirituality degree from the Gregorian University in Rome, he also studied education at Boston College in the United States. Initially involved with the Centre St-Pierre in Montreal, he later served as rector of Saint Paul University Seminary and director of the Ministry Training Center in Ottawa from 1996 to 2010. He was the provincial superior of the Oblates of Quebec from 2011 to 2023. In this capacity, he is familiar with the Sanctuary, having assumed both canonical and civil responsibility as a visitor.

Father Tardif will play a key role in the spiritual, administrative, and organizational leadership of the Sanctuary, as well as in its missionary direction. His contribution may come through new initiatives, the opening of new opportunities, and by bringing a fresh dynamic.

This appointment marks the end of the leadership trio that had overseen the Sanctuary’s transition since December 2021 and involves some changes. Father Rémi Lepage, whose term as director is ending, will now take on the roles of executive assistant and assistant treasurer in the provincial administration of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Father Lepage will still remain at the Sanctuary part-time for a few months as a senior advisor for mission and administrative services, facilitating the transition with the arrival of the new rector.

Arriving at the Notre-Dame-du-Cap Sanctuary in 2020, Rémi Lepage has been a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate since 2004. Ordained a priest in 2008, he specialized in theology and has been a lecturer at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, in addition to having taken on responsibilities in several parishes.

Father Lepage led the Sanctuary alongside two assistant directors: Élaine Proulx, Assistant Director of Human Resources, and Carlos Rodrigues, Assistant Director of Material Resources. Both will continue their work at the Sanctuary. This continuity ensures desirable and reassuring stability and team cohesion.

The installation of the new rector at the Sanctuary ushers in a very promising new era. Strongly supported by loyal employees, a dedicated management team, and an engaged board of directors, the future of the Sanctuary will be both prosperous and bright.
