Prayer Corner: ‘At the foot of the Cross’
Saint Eugene’s Prayer Group
Members of the Saint Eugene Prayer Group commit to offering these intentions daily in their own manner of prayer. All members of OMI Lacombe Canada are highly encouraged to actively pray for the requested intentions.
Week 3
January 16, 2024
As a community, we pray
That the Lord will welcome into His Kingdom:
- Brother Jerome Blackburn, OMI, who died January 8, 2024 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB at the age of 89. May Jerome rest in peace and may all who remember him give thanks for the gift of his life and his 68 years of religious life as an Oblate of Mary Immaculate.
- Collins Masinde, OMI, a scholastic brother of the Kenya Mission, studying at the St. Joseph’s Oblate Scholasticate in Cedara, South Africa. Bro. Collins drowned in a tragic accident on January 12, 2024. May perpetual light shine upon Collins, and in the mercy of God, may he rest in peace.
- Vincent LaPlante, OMI, of Pandosy Place, who died in Vancouver on January 12, 2024, after a brief stay at the Vancouver General Hospital. Vince was in his 100th year. We remember the gift of his life and we pray for his community, his family and his friends who mourn their loss.
For these brothers and sisters, their communities, their families and those who love them and those who provide for their care:
- For Amy and Bob of Vancouver, continued prayers for the health and protection of their unborn baby boy, due in May. We pray for the Lord’s peace and comfort to rest on them during this pregnancy and that Bob’s dreams of being able to farm will come to be.
- For our niece Natalie in the USA who is awaiting a serious surgery in her throat and face for a previously undetected growth. We pray that she experiences God’s peace and healing.
- For Elsie, beloved mother of Saskatchewan friends, during these last weeks together in her decision to have no treatments for her terminal cancer. We pray that she and her family be drawn into Christ’s saving mystery of love for them all.
For our Oblate family:
- For the generous ‘yes’ of men to an Oblate life and of men and women to Oblate Association.
For our Métis, Inuit and First Nations brothers and sisters.
Who is this that comes forth like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun…?
Song 6:10 (NCB)
O Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of Guadalupe, intercede for us with your Son
That we who live in this land, Indigenous and non-Indigenous together,
May experience healing and reconciliation on a renewed journey of justice and peace for our children.
Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Prayer for Peace
Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.
Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words “division”, “hatred” and “war” be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be “brother”, and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam! Amen
