Prayer Corner
‘At the foot of the Cross:’ Saint Eugene’s Prayer Group
Week 20
May 18, 2022
As a community, we pray for:
Dennis Alexander, OMI, who died May 15th in Vancouver. May he rest in peace.
Eleanor Rabnett’s sister Mary Cooke, who has been diagnosed with dementia. Mary and her husband Anthony are receiving help so that she can remain at home with Anthony, at least for the short term. They are all grateful for your prayers.
As the Mazenodian Family, we are often being reminded of the principle of prayer in our mission: “Oblate spirituality calls us to daily periods of silent prayer to rest in the Mystery of God. This experience makes us more generous in our vocational journey, in the way we relate to the poor and in apostolic community.”(Fr. Louis Lougen OMI: Letter to the Congregation on the Year of Oblate Vocations, December 8, 2017)
It has become a tradition that the Oblate family unite in prayer for vocations during the Oblate Novena Prayer beginning on May 21, the feast of St. Eugene de Mazenod, through May 29. This year, we are proposing a Novena prayer with Mary Immaculate, in commemoration of the 200 years of the experience of the Founder before the Oblate Madonna, on August 15, 1822. During the last three days of the Novena prayer, we will also remember the 2nd Oblate Lay Associations Congress in our prayers.
The Vocation ministries of OMI Lacombe Canada, the US Province and Anglo-Irish Province would like to invite you to come together to pray for vocations. We’ll be posting a short video reflection on our social media every day.
Oblates and Oblate Associates are invited to gather virtually on ZOOM every day of the Novena at 3:00pm Eastern Time (8:00pm in Ireland) to get to know each other and pray together. The ZOOM room will be open 15 minutes before the prayer for an opportunity to socialize and exchange greetings.
Date & time: May 21st to May 29, 2022 at 3 pm (ET) or 8 pm (time in Ireland)

In May 2022, we join the Holy Father in prayer for faith-filled young people. We pray for all young people, called to live life to the fullest; may they see in Mary’s Life the way to listen, the depth of discernment, the courage that faith generates, and the dedication to service. We pray for all members of our Oblate community who work with young people. May they be examples of faith, support, encouragement, and wisdom.
We continue to remember in prayer
The Kenya Mission as they celebrate their 25th We remember all the Oblates who generously served there. As they celebrate their 25th anniversary, we pray for the priests who are ministering there, those in formation, and the people they serve.
All those in our families and community who are living with illness of any kind. We remember Oblates Edmond Paradis, Phil Smith, Ron Dechant, Terry Conway, and Jim Dukowski, as they deal with medical issues.
Ashley, whose mental and emotional health issues seriously affect her life.
Maureen Pisonneault, H.OMI, who is in palliative care.
The generous ‘yes’ of men to an Oblate life and of men and women to Oblate Association.
We pray for all our brothers and sisters in need, and for their caregivers, families, and friends.
We continue to pray for our Metis, Inuit and First Nations brothers and sisters
