THANK YOU, Pope Francis!
The Oblate family joins the universal Church in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, giving thanks for his life, witness, and words that stirred hearts across the world.
Among the memories we cherish is his message to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at our 37th General Chapter in 2022. His encouragement remains a source of strength.
Pilgrims of Hope in Communion
In his address, Pope Francis affirmed the theme of our Chapter—Pilgrims of Hope in Communion—which echoes the Church’s Jubilee focus for 2025. He reminded us of our duty to proclaim the Gospel where peace, joy, and hope are often missing. In a world marked by injustice, conflict, and isolation, he called us to walk as brothers, in step with the suffering and the poor.
The Holy Father praised our charism, inherited from Saint Eugène de Mazenod, and urged us to deepen our missionary identity. He asked us to serve with love and fidelity in the many countries where Oblates are present. He spoke of wars and social inequalities not as distant concerns, but as places where the Gospel must be lived.
Witnesses of Communion
Pope Francis invited us to rediscover the gift of religious consecration, to journey with the holy people of God, and to embrace laypersons and youth as companions in mission. He asked us to be signs of communion, solidarity, and synodality—building fraternity and walking together. He reminded us to care for creation and to return often to the wellspring of our vocation.
Before ending, he offered his blessing to all Oblates, especially the sick and elderly. He asked for our prayers, in his quiet and trusting way.
We thank God for the voice of Pope Francis, who was clear and steady even in suffering. We will carry his message with us, wherever we are sent.
Rest in Peace, Papa Francesco!
